What are Etizolam and Alprazolam?

Both Etizolam and Alprazolam are medications used in the treatment of anxiety and panic disorders. It has a plasma half-life of 3.5 hours, while its active metabolite alpha-hydroxyetizolam has a half-life of over 8 hours.

Alprazolam works within 5-10 minutes of taking the tablet. It reaches its peak in the bloodstream within 1-2 hours of use. The mean plasma half-life of Alprazolam is approximately 11.2 hours. However, the range is 6-27 hours for obese individuals, with a higher range possible. Both medications are metabolized by the liver and eliminated through the kidneys through urine.

Is Etizolam better than Alprazolam?

While Etizolam and Alprazolam effectively treat anxiety, Etizolam has a broader spectrum of use. It is popularly used in the short-term treatment of insomnia and for cases of depression. Etizolam additionally is used in neurosurgeries for preventing subdural hematoma. Alprazolam is also used for the treatment of co-morbid depression and managing nausea in patients undergoing chemotherapy.

2) The drugs should take them after food with a full glass of water instead of other liquids like milk, beverages or fruit juices.

4) Pregnant, lactating mothers or people with a history of Benzodiazepine reaction or addiction should avoid the medication.

5) The medicines should use it with caution in people with liver or kidney infections or impairments.

6) These medications may cause dizziness or sleepiness. Driving or operating heavy machinery should be avoided after using them.

7) Medical assistance should be given immediately on evidence of any severe side effects.
