What are Etizolam and Lorazepam
Etizolam is a benzodiazepine analog available under several generic names like Etipax, Etilaam, Atizolam 1mg, and Pasaden. It helps in the short-term treatment of anxiety and insomnia. Many research and clinical trials have proved its effectiveness in patients with depression and neurosurgeries, bronchospasm, and hypotension as an antagonist of Platelet Activating Factor.
Lorazepam is a benzodiazepine class of medication sold under the trade name Ativan. It is used in the treatment of anxiety and insomnia. Additionally, it is useful in the treatment of active seizures and short-term seizures. It is popularly used by patients undergoing alcohol withdrawal or in the treatment of nausea in patients undergoing chemotherapy. Surgically, Lorazepam is useful in preventing retrograde amnesia and for sedating patients through mechanical respiration.
How do they work?
Both Etizolam and Lorazepam bind to the benzodiazepine receptors on the postsynaptic GABA neurons at several sites within the central nervous system. This enhances the inhibitory effects of GABA with the conductance of chloride ions in the cell. The result is a calming effect on the brain and relief from the anxiolytic, depressive, sedative, or convulsion symptoms you are suffering from. Not any research has led to any conclusive results about the advantages of either of the medications over the other. It is only generally assumed that Lorazepam has a much wider range of action and function than Etizolam. Both of them are Schedule IV medications.
Strengths and Doses :
Etizolam online comes in strengths from 0.25mg-2mg. It is available in the form of tablets, gelatinous capsules, pellets and is even dispensed as powder and over blotter paper. The dose of the medication depends on the condition it is used to treat. Anxiety and insomnia respond best to 0.25-0.5mg Etizolam doses when taken twice a day, whereas depression works best with 1mg-2mg doses. It’s advisable not to exceed the total dose beyond 3mg-4mg daily. It takes 30-40 minutes for the drug to start acting after the intake. Peak levels are obtained within 3-4 hours of use. The plasma half-life of the medication is around 3.5-6 hours. Alpha-hydroxyetizolam, its active metabolite, has a half-life of 8.2 hours. It is metabolized by the liver and eliminated by the kidneys in the form of urine and feces.
Lorazepam comes in strengths of 0.5mg, 1mg, and 2.5mg. It is even available as 2mg/ml oral concentrate and as intravenous injections of 2mg/ml and 4mg/ml. For anxiety disorders, usually, 1-4 mg/ml is taken in divided doses. For short-term treatment of insomnia, 1-2 mg/ml of the dose is taken before bedtime. Similarly, for small dentistry procedures or before general surgeries, doctors prescribe 2-3mg/ml of dose as a pre-meditative measure the night before the operation or 2-3 hours before the procedure. Intravenously, it takes 1-5 minutes to start working, while intramuscularly, the onset time is around 15-30 minutes. It has a duration of action of 21-24 hours and an elimination half-life of 10-20 hours, after which it gets eliminated by the kidneys.

Headache, nausea, dryness of the mouth, and dizziness are some of the less serious side-effects associated with the use of either medication. Sometimes serious complications may occur like urinary incontinence, difficulty breathing, or blurred vision with yellowing of skin or eyes. As soon as you experience any of these symptoms, it is advisable to seek urgent medical help.
These medications should be stored in a cool dark place away from direct sunlight. They should be kept out of the reach of children and pets. Additionally, it is advisable not to overdose on the medication to make up for the missed dose on the missing dose.
1) For insomnia or anxiety, take a test batch of the medication and check its effectiveness before proceeding further.
2) Do Not use either of the medications if you have a history of liver or kidney disease, suffer from suicidal thoughts, or have benzodiazepine addiction issues.
3) They should also be avoided in pregnant women or breastfeeding ladies.
4) As these medications can cause dizziness, it is advisable not to drink, drive or operate heavy machinery after taking them.
5) Juices, especially grapefruit, can interact with these drugs and cause changes in their chemical structure. Don’t take them with any form of juice or even milk but only a full glass of water.
